Toni Merkens was a well-known track rider and had many victories to his credit, including victories at Herne Hill and the 1936 Olympics (riding a curly Hetchins). Hyman offered a Toni Merkens model in honor of this latter victory, however the sales ledgers show that it was not a commercial success. This is the only known surviving exemplar of this model. It was first sold to A. Dale (an engineering firm) of Glasgow on 12 April 1939, price 14 pounds 10 shillings. The present owner acquired it and spared no expense putting it into perfect period-correct condition. Blue metallic paint by Argos of Bristol.
